The Year was 1990, the year that I started teaching at Toorak College with Julie Carrington in the Mathematics Faculty. Hugh O'Reilly was Head of Maths and his wife Corrine was Head of the Library. Unfortunately, Corrine later had a brain anurism one night and died in hospital a day or so later. Mrs Williams was the Principal. Kath Rumph was the DP. We joined the staff at a time when many Maths staff had just left the school. We both loved the school, the students and the staff we worked with. What an amazing group of people. I had taught in the State system for 12 years. First at Mt Eliza HS and then Hastings HS, later known as Westernport Secondary College. What an injection of enthusiasm and love of learning the girls gave me. At the time we had a 5 day timetable with 6 x 50 minute lessons. Beryl Rule was Head of Staff, what an amazing lady. In my Year 11 class was Kristy Russel (ne:Cockram) the Toorak College Catering Manager. Memorable Year 11 students of my classes were: Katherine Abrat, Amber Beattie, Nicole Friend, Catherine Sinclair, Megan Wheatley, Sonia Constantine and Miranda Barber (what a voice). In Year 12 I taught Kirsten McKay (daughter of Chris McKay), Farida Abdullah (now a Lawyer in KL and the mother of a number of children) and Koe Sen Wong (mother of 2 - Renee and Reese).

My first tute at Toorak, what a team! Notice their eyes, what rebels! |
I still run into Nat Krooglik (bottom right) down the surf with her good friend Sally Wratten. Nat's sister is a good friend of my daughter in law Lucy. Correne Wilkie went on to be the manager of the band 'The Cat Empire'.

Great to hear from you Koe Sen. I have many great memories of my first years at Toorak. I remember you trying to teach me Catonese and embarrassing Susan with what you taught me! Hope you are happy and healthy.
